2012 Komen NC Triad Race for the Cure®

What is Race for the Cure®?

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. 

In 1982 that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement.  Today, Komen for the Cure® is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives.

Since the first Komen Race for the Cure® was held in 1983 in Dallas, TX, they have become the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, with well over one million participants since 2005. 

The Komen NC Triad Race for the Cure® is our signature fundraising event.  Locally, the first Race was held in April 2000 and 4,600 participants raised over $375,000.  Over the next 12 years, and, thanks in great part to dedicated individuals, organizations, and corporate partners, our Race has swelled to well over 11,000 participants raising over $800,000! 

Race for the Cure® is a unique and emotionally charged opportunity for thousands of women, men, and their families—running or walking—to spread the breast cancer message within their communities and to help fund finding the cures!
